A student with too many books

Who I am #

I’m an Engineering Cybernetic student at the University of Stuttgart. If you don’t know what that is, don’t worry, nobody does. It means I’m interested in control and system theory, a mathematical framework to build automated systems. I’m not just a theorist (hence the “engineering”), so my applications reach from self-driving vehicles over balancing the electric grid to opto-mechatronics in laser technology.

Hobbies and Interests #

Apart from my studies, I am interested in books and literature, especially science fiction and fantasy. I can appreciate classics like Dune, Lord of the Rings and Neuromancer, but those genres have evolved and produced new masters such as Joe Abercrombie and Andreas Eschbach. Reading can be consuming hobby, but in my opinion the gained experience–albeit in a fictional setting–is valuable nonetheless. Or to put it in the words of George R. R. Martin:

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.”

Importantly, reading provides new perspectives, like the view point of a marginalized group on current issues. In a fantasy setting, these perspectives can be tested to the extremes or placed in new contexts. If that caught your attention, you might be interested in my blog.
